Our organization's name change from Executive Alliance to EA alliance of nonprofits was highlighted to the attendees along with the fuller richer EA website. Over the next month you will be receiving email notices about accessing your organization profile. We are working on adding the capability of renewing and or joining EA online. Stay tuned.
In September we will be introducing the much anticipated insurance program. This program gives EA members special rates on Commercial Insurance; an Executive Package that will include D&O, Employment Practices, Crime and other programs; Volunteer Accidental Package; Benefits including health care; 403B Investment Advising, and Long Term Care Insurance. As a member of EA, you will also receive a value add program of services that non EA members pay extra for. You will be receiving information mid-August.
Two surveys will be in your email inbox within the next few weeks. The first survey is the 2nd Annual Economic Impact Survey and the second survey is a membership survey. Both surveys will give the sector and EA information to support our mission of Advancing a Powerful Nonprofit Sector. Please take the time to complete both surveys.
Stay tuned…more new program/service announcements to come.
Have a great month of July!

Landmark Bill to Strengthen Nonprofit-Government Partnership Introduced
The National Council of Nonprofits applauded the leadership of Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) for introducing the Nonprofit Sector and Community Solutions Act (HR 5533) a bill that will transform the way that the federal government thinks about and deals with the charitable nonprofit community in the United States.
"Congresswoman McCollum recognizes the vital role nonprofits play in communities across America and the essential need to strengthen the partnership between government and nonprofits in order to deliver vital services, build capacity, enhance accountability, and save taxpayers money," said Tim Delaney, President & CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits. "This landmark legislation removes the cloak of invisibility that the federal government seems to have draped over the nonprofit sector. For too long, government has ignored the third sector - the nonprofit sector that employs 10 percent of America's workforce and often is a key, but unrecognized, partner in delivering government services. This bill opens the door for needed dialogue among nonprofits, government agencies, and the American public."
Marcia Avner, Public Policy Director of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, added, "The U.S. collects and reports current economic performance information of nearly every other industry, but we do not know how many individuals work for charitable nonprofit organizations, how federal dollars flow to nonprofits through state and local governments, or even how much public support is given each year to distinct charitable activities. Congresswoman McCollum's legislation takes the steps necessary to provide answers and show the government and public the incredible work of the nonprofit sector at the national level."

I-1098 (formally I-1077)
Right now signatures are being collected for I-1098 to go on the ballot in November.
I-1098 would:
- Cut taxes by reducing the state property tax by 20%
- Eliminating the B&O tax for 80% of small businesses with a tax credit up to $4,400
- Create an income tax on high incomes (over $400,000 for couples, $200,000 for individuals).
- Dedicate the net revenue (an estimated $1 billion per year) to education (70%) and health care. (30%)
- This initiative will raise revenues by approximately 1 billion dollars a year. (net tax increase of 1 billion dollars)
How does this initiative hurt or help the nonprofit sector?
This initiative would generate one billion dollars in net revenue for Washington State. 70% of funding will be designated to the Education Legacy Trust Fund for K-12 class size reductions, extended learning opportunities, pre-kindergarten, and expanding access to higher education, and 30% to fund the voter-approved Basic Health Plan, public health services, and long-term care for vulnerable seniors and people with disabilities.
However, right now, no funding has been allocated for social services.
What do you think about this initiative? Email us at I-1098 to share your thoughts about this issue.

Federal Issues we are working on:
1. Estate tax – The estate tax is a critical incentive for people of great wealth to give back through their estates to support the work of charitable organizations.
2. Fees on charitable contributions made by credit or debit card – Credit card companies and banks collect an interchange or “swipe” fee for processing all transactions, including charitable donations made by debit or credit card.
3. Nonprofit Sector and Community Solutions Act – This recently introduced piece of legislation seeks to strengthen the nonprofit voice in the federal government and to promote a greater understanding of the critical role charities play in our communities and economy.
