March 2010It's your IMPACT
The Washington State Nonprofit Conference is fast
approaching. On April 29th, nonprofit leaders across the state will gather together
focused on Investment + Innovation = IMPACT. That’s what it’s all about. Impact.
Creating a lasting impact is central to our motivation. Our missions depend on
it. Our communities need it.
How do we maximize our impact? There are many ways, but
perhaps I can suggest one. Collaboration. We see it time and time again. Those
invested, innovative organizations working with others have immediate and long
lasting impacts. We saw this during Nonprofit Day in Olympia.
On February 4th, the nonprofit community reached out to
state lawmakers. This all day event was colored with collaboration. Over 50 nonprofit leaders joined us and met face-to-face with 47 state Senators and
Representatives. Our message was simple: collaboration. By extending a hand of
partnership, we’re joining up with legislators, working together and creating
the lasting impact we all want. Our efforts that day have already proven
effective. We’ve fielded questions, given suggestions, and have been invited to
work closely with our Capitol. Collaboration leads to impact.
Nonprofits that embody collaboration have lasting impacts.
To recognize these leaders, we are proud to present the Evergreen Award. For 17
years, the Evergreen Award has recognized nonprofit organizations for their
contributions to our communities and the furtherance of excellent leadership in
the nonprofit sector. This prestigious award honors nonprofit organizations
that exemplify the use of groundbreaking partnerships and collaborations. Sound
like your organization, or one you know? Learn more and submit an application
here. The deadline for applications is March 25th at 4:00 p.m. Let us know who’s
collaborating in our sector!

Washington
State Nonprofit Conference
On February 4th, EA alliance of nonprofits member
organizations asserted the importance, power, and relevance of the nonprofit
sector in policy-making. We met with 47 legislators and delivered educational materials to
another 95.
Our message was strong and united: nonprofits are
influential business and significant employers, nonprofits leverage state
funds, nonprofits offer services the government can’t, and EA alliance of
nonprofits is a partner and resource for the legislature.
Since the Nonprofit Day in Olympia, we’ve had ongoing contact with
several legislators. Keeping true to our partnership, we’ve helped clarify
issues, answer questions, and provide support for our lawmakers. EA alliance of
nonprofits is excited to continue to build upon relationships with our elected
officials and position the sector as an essential actor in Olympia.
Concerns about HB 3046
House bill 3046 is a response to a complication in the
dissolution of a nonprofit in Spokane.
It stipulates measures for all nonprofits that are going out of business. The
bill was passed through the House and is now headed of the Senate Judiciary
Committee. EA alliance of nonprofits opposes the bill in its current form
because it is an excessive response to an isolated challenge of one
nonprofit. Read more at the ACTION Blog!
